Chanelle Davids lives her dreams at Okuhle Media

Written by Jill Welsh

Born and bred in Macassar, Cape Town, Chanelle Davids is an actress, presenter and motivational speaker. Her passion for the industry goes beyond just being in it, sharing her knowledge with youngsters dreaming of pursuing a life in performing arts is a key aspect to Chanelle. Theatre was the door that to her current journey. Competing in the Artscape Acting Competition for High school learners back in 2009 and landing a spot in the top 8 actors out of 556 learners, gave her the boost of confidence she needed.

Following her success in the Artscape Acting Competition, Chanelle was selected to form part of the Vaselinetjie cast and toured to a variety of arts festivals across South Africa for 4 years, under the direction of Henry Mylne, director of 7de Laan. She also starred in Hel Op Hemel En Aarde, directed by Vicky Davis, an open-air theatre piece. Both Vaselinetjie & Hel Op Hemel En Aarde were nominated for a Fiesta award for Best Newly Created Drama.

Chanelle then made her television debut on 7de Laan as Natalie Booysen, Errol’s love interest and was deeply loved by the viewers, she could not resist going back to reprise the role a few times. Her love for television grew immensely and enticed her to audition for Hectic Nine-9 in 2012. She then landed the part and has been a part of the Hectic Nine-9 family since 2012.

Her time at Hectic Nine-9 has seen her travel far and wide – including a trip to Los Angeles for the Lego Batman media junket where she was fortunate enough to interview the likes of Will Arnett, Zach Galifianakis, Rosario Dawson, Michael Cera & the director, Chris McKay.

You can also catch Chanelle on SABC 2’s Beter Assie Bure as the new co-host, where she continues to pursue her dreams and break the stereotypes around television – helping youngsters understand that you don’t have to be a certain size, a certain race or speak a certain way to be where you want to be.

Chanelle’s advice to young South Africans who want to pursue a career in entertainment and arts: ‘Just be you! Work hard and pursue your passions. When talent and passion is the driving force, nothing and no one can stop you.’

Watch Beter Assie Bure on Thursday at 19h00 only on SABC 2.
