On the show, Zola will invite some of South Africa’s most-loved celebrities into her kitchen to make and share mouth-watering South African meals and inspiring stories.
We sat down with Zola Nene and she shared some of the delicious details about the show.
What has your experience been like working on the first ever Celeb Feasts show?
“It’s been an absolute dream come true. Having my own cooking-talk show has been something I’ve talked about for a while, so for it to finally take off is so amazing. It’s great to take this new step in my career and been given the opportunity to have another platform to share my love for food and cooking is fantastic. I love using food as a catalyst to evoke emotion and conversation and this show is all about that. We delve into the intimate life stories of celebs and find out who helped make them who they are, while sipping on wine and eating delicious food, of course!”
How do you handle the task of cooking for so many different people who havesuch different pallets and tastes? What’s your approach?
“To be honest, I cook the type of food that I enjoy eating. My aim is always to introduce people to tastes and dishes that they may not have tried before. You can never please everyone, so I never develop a recipe with that in mind. My only aim is to create dishes using accessible ingredients and applying simple methods to create visually appealing and delicious food.”
Did it take much convincing to agree to go ahead with Celeb Feast?
[Laughs| “Not really, as I’ve said, it’s something I’ve wanted to do for a while so it was a no – brainer.”
What do you like the most about the Celeb Feasts show?
“Obviously, my favourite part is being in the kitchen, in my element. But more than that, I love sharing my love and passion for food with people. Cooking for people is how I express love and this show is an extension of that. I also really love the meaningful conversations that we delved into while cooking with the celebs, they really shared a lot with me.”
Given the opportunity to invite anyone (living or dead) to your dinner table, who would it be, and why?
“It would definitely be my late maternal grandmother. One of my earliest memories of cooking was with her. She let me help her grind mealies to make bread. She passed away when I was very young so she never saw me become a chef. I would love to cook her a meal and sit with her while she enjoys it. I’d also love to know what she’d say about my cooking because it’s so different from the way that she used to cook.”
Tune into Celeb Feasts with Zola on Mzansi Magic 161 on DSTV on 8 January 2018 at 21h30 to catch all the tasty tales of South African celebs and Zola Nene.
