On 8 February 2019, the 13th annual South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs) nominations were announced and television industry heavyweights sat at the edge of their seats in anticipation.

 

The Okuhle Media team were over the moon, brimming with excitement when word got out about the nominations for 3 productions and 1 best tv presenter award. In light of these incredible nomination, it’s only fitting to bring light to the prestigious productions and talent. The nominations are was follows:

 

Best Children’s Program: Hectic on 3

Hectic On 3 offers young viewers aged 8-12 years old a full half hour of quality live television, filled with fun, creativity and plenty of slime!

Three is the name of the game on Hectic On 3, as each episode explores three themes: Play, Create and Inspire. From DIY’s to Demo’s, Pranks and Skits, our young viewers are taken on an interactive television experience to entertain and tweens about the wonderful world.

Best Factual and Educational Programme: Case Closed

Case Closed unpacked thirteen different chilling stories from across South Africa that left our hair standing on end. We heard the horrific tale of each case from those affected by and involved in the crime. It showed what they saw by means of re-enactments – sometimes performed by those who were directly involved.  The investigating officers from the South African Police service took the viewer through the step-by-step paces of the crime, how the case unfolded, how the perpetrator was captured and its conclusion.

The thirteen Case closed episodes are the stories of cases that have been concluded. Criminals arrested, found guilty and sentenced. Cases closed.

 

Best Reality tv show: Ultimate Braai Master

The motto is rain, wind or shine – we braai! Internationally broadcasted, Ultimate Braai Master, is a South African born reality cooking show that celebrates our favourite activity- Braaing! The show puts the best braaiers in the country against each other through a series of tough challenges, set in some of the most beautiful landscapes South Africa has to offer. The teams battle it out one challenge at a time to see who will take home the Ultimate Braai Master crown.

Season 6 of Ultimate Braai Master is currently on air every Sunday at 16h00 on e.tv.

 

Best TV Presenter: Boitumelo “Melo” Moloto

Boitumelo Moloto, better known as ‘Melo’ is a budding young presenter on Hectic on 3.

Her journey as a #Ho3 presenter, Melo says she has been a life-changing experience that has fuelled er passion for broadcasting media. “I have learnt so much about being a live TV presenter, working with children and having a team. Our team has seen it all; my ups, my downs and I’m so grateful that they got to see me grow and become the SAFTA nominated presenter that I am today,” says Melo.

While Melo may be a career driven superhero, she loves making people laugh and is serious about inspiring young minds to do great things. Her work on Hectic on 3 has been monumental and her nomination is a testament to that.
