My Night documents the once-in-a-lifetime, rite of passage that is the Matric Dance. Each episode follows one teen’s exciting, emotional journey as they prepare for their big day and culminates in the excitement of the night itself, complete with the glitz, glam, tears and laughter that this momentous event fuels.
This is not just about the beauty queens and prom kings. The emphasis is on finding great stories that showcase South Africa’s tremendous diversity and provides a glimpse of what being a teenager in this country is about.
It’s about the single teen mother in Khayelitsha celebrating her success in staying in school, the gay couple in matching tuxedos, the teen with multiple sclerosis who has to negotiate crutches on the dance floor as well as tales of ‘ordinary’ teens like the female rugby player.
